NATURE CONSERVATION

Nature conservation indirectly takes care of our wildlife. There is so much wildlife on privately owned game farms that it has become an sustainable addition to farming. We as game farmers are preserving many wild animal species for our children and future generations.

The most important consideration in wildlife conservation is about choosing a suitable habitat for our game, not only to survive but also to multiply and thrive.

To breed trophy animals is not an easy task and all animals are not trophy animals. Trophy animals are animals that are able to survive and grow well so that the animal will reach an age where it becomes a good trophy.

Naturally animal populations becomes to big and has to culled to control their numbers. In the old days our forefathers hat the Lion and Leopard to do the culling for humans, but as the human populations became more dense the Lion and Leopard sadly disappeared and and culling today is done by Sport hunters for trophies (a consumptive hunt because the meat still get used), and farmers to supply the meat industry.

A more acceptable method to control wild animal populations is to catch and distribute them to other game farms that has a shortage of wild animals. This brings about higher wild life population growth and also encourage a better and stronger gene pool. With al the fenced farms it is necessary to use game capturers who distributes game to different farms to prevent inbreeding that leads to weakened gene pools.

Controlled trophy hunting is one of the biggest support instruments in wildlife conservation and game farming. It is very important not take all the biggest animals to leave a healthy gene pool.

Foreran hunters plays a vital role in conservation on privately owned game farms. The money that is generated by trophy hunting is put back into wildlife and the possible income encourages all game farmers to take better care of their wildlife.

Without money there will be no wildlife conservation!!

GAME CAPTURING

Willem has been involved in game capturing since 1990 and since then started his own game farm to cater for trophy hunter and are specializing in breeding quality trophy game.

It may look easy but an animal has far better hearing, smell and sight than a human being.

To be successful you have to know the habit of every individual specie. They are all different and there is a demand for every different species. Game capturing is a process where you have to have patience and you have to allow nature to teach you.

There are different capturing methods that is applied depending on the situation, the specific specie and habitat or rather the terrain. The most popular is to use nets or screens with bush vehicles, motorcycles and a if necessary a chopper.

Using a chopper is faster but also allot more expensive. The screens are expanded in a funnel with a special boma at the back that the game are chased into. The game is then loaded onto trucks and transported to their new home. You need about 40 people for this kind of job. A game capturer has to be a person that lives close to nature and also a person that loves animals.

We also capture with dart guns from vehicles or coppers. Below are pictures with Nicola darting a Bontebok from the copper.
